All of our grapes are harvested by hand. Here, Javier Rivas helps harvest some Syrah.
The only way to know when to harvest is to get to know the personality of the vineyard. Sometimes even in the same vineyard, grapes can become ripe at different times.

Great wine begins in the vineyards. We pride ourselves on the quality of fruit that we purchase and the involvement we have in farming. Each one of our varietals come from carefully chosen vineyards which have something special to contribute to the outcome of the entire blend. Sometimes it is the clone of the grapes, but it can also include the amount of sun exposure, the length of time the grape hangs on the vine, the type of soil and the steepness or elevation of the vineyard.

I spend as much time as possible in the vineyards, especially during harvest and oversee vineyard management from pruning to picking. I look for vineyard sources that will complement one another, or have flavor and balance on their own, because we make single vineyard wines as well as blended wines from multiple locations within Sonoma County.

I earnestly commend our growers, because they are responsible for the quality of our wine.

Just like people, vineyards have their own personalities and quirks. Growing techniques, weather and time can enhance the best of those characteristics - or wipe them out in a split second.

Our vineyards come from the premier wine-growing regions in Sonoma County.
